This Simple Trick Increased My Email Open Rates by 50%

Automated Email Services

Most of us use automated email services, like Overgrowth, to communicate with buyers of our products on Amazon. Even with recent changes that make it easier for buyers to opt-out of these kinds of messages, it is still one of the best ways to connect with customers to offer information about the purchase, let them know about our company and begin to build a relationship with them.

Email Open Rates

Email open rates, however have been steadily decreasing over the past few years, and an email that is never opened by the person you are sending it to is useless! There are a variety of factors that affect email open rates, or the percentage of people that open the emails you are sending. The sending address (and whether it is trusted), the time and date the email is sent, and whether or not the message is flagged as spam by the receiver’s email client are all factors. I’ve found, however, that the subject line is also critically important in determining how many buyers click to open the emails you send.

Subject Lines

A boring, standard subject line is likely to result in more people hitting “delete” without ever opening your emails. An engaging, thought-provoking subject, however has the ability to substantially increase open rates. Think about subject lines that you would want to open. Ask a question, make a bold statement, or do something unexpected.

The following subject lines have worked well for me when contacting customers through automated email:

“I was wondering…”
“Could I give you a simple piece of advice?”
“Do You Need Some Help?”
“I Just Wanted to Thank You”

Be creative, have fun, and, as always — test. Overgrowth has many templates that include subject lines, but I recommend adapting them to make them your own.
