Keys to Effective Content Creation for Amazon Sellers with Karon Thackston
Karon has been writing content for radio stations, websites, advertising, eBay and more importantly Amazon since she was a teenager. Through years of trial and error, she’s positioned herself as an expert at navigating Amazon’s best practices and knows what it takes to increase your conversions, rankings and sales with effective content.
A Lesson in Failure
Karon once did 15 products for a client from New Zealand. She did not know about the style guide in Amazon. It was only when they started writing the 13th or 14th descriptions that they realized there was a guide.
“I wish Amazon has a more structured beginner’s program.” -Karon Thackston
They could not figure out why some were doing great with the descriptions. That’s when she discovered the sellers’ platform and explored.
Testing and Learning
Karon has had her own share of personal and professional mistakes. She loves to test things, dig through them, and learn. It is a big hobby for her.
Effective Content for Amazon
Karon published the Strategies to Boost Your Sales eBook before she launched her Amazon copywriting service. She is known for her unconventional approaches.
One of which is putting search terms in the backend of Amazon’s ability. Amazon now gives sellers 5,000 characters for their product descriptions. But, Karon thinks it’s a big mistake.
“Your buyer isn’t Amazon, there’s more to effective content than filling in all the blanks with keywords. You have to write to the human element as well because your customers are the ones willing to buy your product at a profit.” -Karon Thackston
People tend to put it in as many words as possible. They dive into keyword research, but many of the terms they use are irrelevant to their products.
